If you didn't believe that the President planned on paying for his health care overhaul in part by cutting Medicare, more than $100 billion in cuts, wait until you hear this.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which runs Medicare, has engaged in what can be argued as government intimidation, plain and simple. Remember when the EPA suppressed an internal report that raised questions about global warming, including whether carbon dioxide must be strictly regulated by the federal government? They couldn't let a little thing like facts get in the way of passing their cap-and-trade national energy tax.

Well, gangster government is at it again.

According to the House Ways and Means Committee, "the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) initiated an investigation into at least one provider of a Medicare Advantage (MA) health care plan for informing its enrollees that Medicare cuts proposed by the President and congressional Democrats could alter their benefits.  In addition to this investigation, CMS has since banned all MA health plans from providing similar information to beneficiaries."

Congressman Dave Camp, ranking Republican member of the Committee has taken CMS to task for this gag order. Yesterday, he sent a letter to CMS Acting Administrator Charlene Frizzera, noting that, “no such pressure has been applied to those supportive of the President’s Medicare cuts.”

In fact, the Committee notes, "AARP, which boasts the largest MA plan, for example, has directly communicated with its members via email, a website and letters.  However, AARP’s pro-Medicare cut stance has apparently received no such scrutiny from the Administration.  CMS’ selective use of its regulatory authority, 'threatens the integrity of the agency and of our democracy.'"

Again, another clear example of the government silencing its critics while letting its allies carry on with their business.  About 11 million seniors use Medicare Advantage for their health coverage.  They deserve to know that the burden of paying for the President’s health plan will be on their shoulders.  They deserve some answers, and so do the taxpayers.

Straight-up
It's Stalinism, plain and simple. In America, Humana can sent a notice out that says that the sky is green and the grass is blue, and there is NOTHING the govt at any level can do to stop them.

CMS belongs in Cuba, Venezuela, or some other "enlightened" country.

OBAMA LIED AGAIN!
A CBO report released yesterday contradicted Obama's statement that nobody would lose their insurance or have to pay more.

The CBO says that MEDICARE Advantage will have to be cut a lot and that MEDICARE Plan B will cost more than it does now.

This is significant considering that many seniors are reported to rely on MEDICARE Advantage and are happy with the program. (I don't know what it is.) Also, no COLA increase is planned for Social Security in 2009 (or 2010?) and the increase in Plan B will be out of pocket. This will really hurt old folks who are receiving only small SS checks -- and have nothing else to sustain them. A loss of twenty or thirty dollars is a lot of money to some old folks, believe it or not.

(I heard one old lady call into CSPAN a while back, saying that she had to live on a SS check of something over $600.00 per month. No way in hell, unless she owns enough land to grow a garden, is able to grow a garden and able to can food.)

Either Obama lies a lot -- or he don't have a glimmer of what is in the bill. Not sure which is worse . . . a liar or a president that don't know what is going on.

Gao from the rubber room
Please. This crazy nut has been dressed SO many times for her insistence on spreading not just loony lies, but rambling, drooling stupidity! One must be utterly daft to take this asshat seriously!!!

Really, there MUST be a slot on So You Think You Can Dance to showcase her buffoonery. Like DeLay did (in his few hours before serving time for corruption, apparently.)

My thanks to Town Hall for Michelle Bachmann's regular updates. Used to be I had to rely on the Washington Monthly to keep up with the flat-out looniness of this woman's rants - with Town Hall, I can stay current in real time.

"Remember when the EPA suppressed an internal report that raised questions about global warming."

I remember when the right wing CLAIMED it was a suppressed report, but then the truth of the story was widely publicized. I guess Michelle lives in the right-wing echo chamber full time.

"AARP, which boasts the largest MA plan, for example, has directly communicated with its members via email, a website and letters."

DUH! AARP is an advocacy group, a lobbying organization. Just like the NRA and the Family Research Council. And you're blaming them for lobbying?

the resident trolls protest too much, must have hit some nerves when it hit the fan about this
latest "killing granny" initiative came to light from the bowels of that sewer we once referred to as the White House.
I heard it on Fox and Friends this morning and have been chewing nails ever since. I have Advantage although I have never used it.

We have to keep hammering these elected PARASITES
about their SPECIAL health plan we are paying for, you know the one that's a Cadillac with the option to change plans once a year. I know we must have pity on those poor souls, living the high life in an expensive city like D.C. does cut into ones income and kickbacks so they do deserve the best..Doncha think?

We need to do something about lowering teachers' wages. I'm sick and tired of my kids being taught they came from monkeys by these socialist nutjobs. Burn that "literature" they shove down our kids' throats too. Also, expanding the Patriot Act would help keep us more safe from terrorists...raising the terror alert from elevated to more highly elevated would help people prepare too...please make these your next issues, Michele!

AARP is also profiting from its sponsoring both Medigap and Medicare Advantage plans. It is not merely an "advocacy group."

Medicare
Cutting costs for the bloated and abused Medicare/Medicaid should be objectives for everyone including Michelle. To simply imply that reducing costs are equivalent to reducing services is typical political pandering. Why does Michelle always try to reinforce her ideas with fear? Can't she see anything positive?
These programs are going to be insanely expensive as my generation continues to age. And everything is free. New hips, new hearts, new lungs, fat people, smokers, everyone gets free treatment. Who will pay for all that? And for how long? Should we all live whether healthy or sick for as long as we can? I don't think so.

"To Vlad...

That's correct. Humana also profits from Medicare coverage plans, and, according to Michelle and Town Hall, Humana is being "silenced" for scaring people with falsehoods. Why would Humana do that? Aren't they motivated by the same profits AARP is?

"many seniors are reported to rely on MEDICARE Advantage and are happy with the program. (I don't know what it is.)"

Medicare Advantage is an experiment in hiring private insurance companies to administer Medicare payments. It is widely felt to have failed, as the private companies need a 14% subsidy over the normal cost of government-run Medicare to provide the same service. Cutting back or terminating the program will leave seniors with the same services, but at less cost to the government.

"Also, no COLA increase is planned for Social Security in 2009 (or 2010?)"

It's not really a matter of "planned;" the law dictates when COLA increases will be given, and right now the law says no.

"and the increase in Plan B will be out of pocket."

I think Congress just cancelled that increase.

Public Option
I am for single payer health care! There, you've heard it from someone you freaking idiot! 65% of American's want single payer or a public option and you have no clue? You are an embarrassment and an arrogant rectum! The entire republican obstructionist party should go directly to hell! The republicans were in charge of both houses for several years and grew government, allowed an idiot to take us to war, spy on it's citizens, torture prisoners, allowed bankers and the mortgage companies to go frig-in nuts and ran the Debt through the penthouse roof.
You are palin or boehner stupid!

if there were ever someone named
jesus, he's been dead a long time. Bible is a bunch of stories.

The funny thing is that you will be so disappointed when you die...you won't even know you are dead because you are dead, gone. Me, on the other hand, I don't care what happens after I'm gone. I worship my family, and leaving them would be the ultimate sadness.

How unfortunate.....
....for your family.....

There is more proof that Jesus existed (independent of the Bible) than there is that Alexander the Great existed.

I presume we all believe that Alexander existed.

Hatred of Christianity is all too common these days. I pray the Lord gets a hold of your life and gives it a real good shake...for your family's sake. It's not their fault you're a fool.....

Feel free to call DHS....
