Much has been made of President Obama's recently proposed cap-and-trade, energy-tax policy that he would soon like to see implemented as a means to raise revenue for his health care reform and other big spending plans. The graph below, provided by Ways and Means Ranking Member Dave Camp (R-MI), shows the state-by-state analysis of annual per capita increases in electricity costs that would occur under a 100% auction, as President Obama has called for, to meet his target carbon emission reductions.

At a Ways and Means hearing today, Congressman Camp questioned Congressional Budget Office Director Dr. Douglas Elmendorf  about the impact of this policy on consumers in other ways as well.  As Dr. Elmendorf said, “at any point in which we are putting a price on carbon emissions, that would be passed through to the cost that consumers face on energy products but also all other products that are made using fossil fuels….I don’t know if there are any goods that use no energy in their production.  It seems to me unlikely.”

The President’s energy tax is a policy we simply can't afford.

Hey Leftist Trolls
Maybe you all can answer one question for us conservatives:

Why is your president hell bent on bankrupting every American with his budget proposals, cap and trade proposal, stimulus plans, Tarp's 1, 2, and 3, and his power grabbing Treasury Sec. that now wants unlimited powers over private enterprise?

We'll be waiting for an educated answer (no emotions necessary, just facts).

This disgusting human being will never stop until he has destroyed this country. Make no mistake, that IS HIS GOAL. Gee, Kath - I'm BETTING that President Obama would be doing a lot of very different things if he didn't have to come in and stem the fatal hemorrhaging of taxpayer's money that he INHERITED. Sure, President Obama would have LOVED to enter his presidency with a SURPLUS like Bush had in 2001.

Your clown president spent big and spent recklessly for 8 years, using that surplus as a means to begin gifting his favorite Americans - the one percenters at the top - with big tax cuts, and waging a war of aggression based on lies for oil. Your GOP rubberstampers never ONCE stopped the reckless spending by Bush. NOT. ONCE. Instead they passed virtually every lousy, wasteful bill put forward by Bush and backed his every tragic whim.

And now you, in your parroting-class ignorance have the nerve to whine about President Obama working 24/7 to stop the ruination of our country at the hands of GOP rule. If you were smart, dear ignoramus, you'd stick a cork in your pie hole.

Inherited? That has already been debunked by even the leftist news media who are starting to turn on their messiah. Yes, Bush did promote Tarp 1 with demonrat blessings, I will give you that, however your blessed Obambi was in the Oval Office giving his full support for it. He was also a member of the senate so he is complacent. Can't keep blaming Bush, Obambi now owns this economy along with the Demonrats.

Next up, was his asking Bush to help him get the second half of TARP 1 released by congress, before he was inaugurated!

Your clown president is hell bent in bankrupting this country Rae, plain and simple and guess what? That means you too! I assume though since you drink so much Kool-Aid that simple fact is lost on you.

Many people are opposing a congressional mandate on the new energy saving lightbulbs, not just conservatives. Why?

They contain deadly amounts of mercury!

When dropped on a floor and broken, there is no way from cleaning/absorbing all of the mercury that they spill into your household without the aid of a Haz Mat team.

Highly toxic, especially for the elderly, small children and pets.

Kathy,

Name calling becomes you; my comment was directed at EXeye's comment about cost.

But as long as you blabbered on, fluorescent light bulbs have been in use for decades; Rep. Bachmann’s mercury red herring was just that; a red herring.

Also you obviously didn’t read the description of the 3 bulbs for eight dollars “It also reduces and controls hazardous materials like carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, mercury, lead, and more.”
I know you conservatives do not like abrupt change, but most products are improved as time goes on.

I guess you must have been opposed to taking lead out of gasoline and paint, the requirements that lead to more fuel efficient cars, scrubbers at coal fired power plants, taking PCBs out of electronics and transformers or dumping raw sewage into our lakes and rivers.

Hey, just because Rep. Bachmann says it, doesn't mean you have to believe it

This graph comes from the House Ways and Means Committee. Rep. Bachmann is not even on that committee, so she certainly did not make these figures up.

Chairman Obama's cap and trade policy will bankrupt not only energy companies, but also lower income families. According to this chart, my family of 6 in WI will see our electric bill go from $80 a month to $407 a month; in other words, from 2% of our income to 12% of our income!

Do you see what this government wants to do... the Treasury wants the power to take over a business..if they see fit to do so...we better wake up and start to pay attention in what's going on here people... is this not socialism.. communist.
When the government wants to plan and control the economy and businesses.
I was watching Hannity last night and he had Daniel Hannan on, and he was talking about what made America great and that was small government,
right from the beginning..it was Capitalism that made America number one in the world.
if we don't wake up...we will lose our freedom in the United States of America.
call your Senators and congressmen and tell them to vote against this Budget plan,
this will Bankrupt our country... then what.. the government will take over the Banking industry the auto industry the insurance industry...this is Communist or Socialism what ever you want to call it.

You vent CO2 into your greenhouse? After you do so, do you go in there, close the door, and hang around? I'm betting you don't, because you're still alive to post on TH.

Isn't that proof that CO2 is more than just plant food? Are you saying that it's a good idea to feed the plants and kill the people?
