All we hear from the Obama Administration and Democrats in Congress is the need for a multi-hundred-billion dollar economic stimulus plan to turn around our economy. According to them, the longer we wait, the more we'll inevitably have to spend to turn the economy around. What's most troubling about the Obama plan is that some of the very people who work for him don't even think it will work.

In fact, while under the leadership of the man that Obama just hired to be his Budget Director – the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) said Obama's stimulus plan won't work. In fact, the CBO concluded that there are serious doubts that the bulk of the spending would have any immediate effect on our economy.

According to a recent Bloomberg.com article:

"A Congressional Budget Office analysis of President Barack Obama ’s plan found that most of the approximately $355 billion in proposed discretionary spending on highways, renewable energy and other initiatives wouldn’t be spent before 2011. The government would spend about $26 billion of the money this year and $110 billion more next year, the report said. About $103 billion would be spent in 2011, while $53 billion would be spent in 2012 and $63 billion between 2013 and 2019."

The report indicates that the CBO expects a "slow" recovery to begin later this year and that the economy will expand by a "modest" 1.5 percent in 2010, so much of the stimulus may not come until after the economy has already begun to recover. If the CBO is correct, this gigantic stimulus package doesn't do much at all to stimulate the economy in the short-term despite what the Democrats say. It's simply a mechanism to implement an enormous expansion of government growth and influence.  Instead of stimulating the economy to recover, this nearly $1-trillion spending bill will follow the early steps of economic recovery and add to an already large debt we’re placing on generations of taxpayers.

For a real alternative to help the sagging economy, check out The Economic Recovery and Middle-Class Tax Relief Act of 2009.

The best way to stimulate the economy and create jobs is to cut wasteful spending, reduce the tax burden on small businesses and families, and keep money in the private sector. Let’s make sure it stays that way.

Or enact the Fair Tax
That would remove the barriers to work, saving, and investment that our current tax system imposes. It would spread the tax burden, rather than concentrating it onto the high-income segment of the population (which doesn't include all persons considered "rich"; many "rich" people have very low incomes--they live off their accumulated investments and such). And it would eliminate the burden of tax compliance and the costs that entails.

Double-dip
I gazed into my crystal ball and I saw our future.

The United States will begin an extremely anemic recovery later this year that will continue over until 2010. At some point in 2011, when the tax increases begin in earnest and the bailout money runs out, America will slide back into ANOTHER recession. Also, watch oil prices begin to rise as oil exporters realize there is little chance for increased drilling in the United States.

And the 2011 recession is going to be a doozy, almost the very definition of stagflation.

Oil prices will also rise--along with
the price of everything else--when the massive amount of dollars currently being printed by the Federal Reserve fully hit the market.

Budget woes
The ice princess' budget is based on 70 dollars a barrel. she's facing a HUGE deficit, if that price does not come up from where it is currently. If she can't get the price up, she faces an uphill battle to get re elected in 10. I don't want to support the AK economy. If it was managed well in the first place, all your eggs would not be in the same basket.

Once more
we have the 'wisdom' of the other side. I won't bother to try and explain all the nuances of why tax cuts are a good thing. Would get no where.

I will just state it in simple terms.

If tax cuts lessened the amount of money the government received (which it has been proven it does not) why exactly is that a bad thing?

The government spending less money is actually a good thing. Ignoring the fact that it is not their money anyway, and that it is always easier to spend someone elses money on someone else, the bottom line is the government spending more and more money has never, and will never result in prosperity. The real world doesn't work that way.

Hence it is the fundamental difference between Conservatives and Liberals. The role of government. We believe the government should operate in the limited role they were designed to do. Liberals believe the government is the be all, end all, the solution to everything.

I can already predict one reaction. "Someone has to help out the (fill in the blank group). Don't you care about the (fill in the blank group)?"

To that I say this, (and most Conservatives should as well.) Yes we do care about the (fill in the blank group),we just don't believe the federal government is the proper agent for the solution.

And yet you consistently nominate, support, and elect people who expand government. The only possible conclusion is that you don't really believe what you profess to believe.

Do
not confuse those of us who believe that (Conservatives) with those that currently lead the party. (Republicans) There is a clear and distinct difference. Always has been, always will be. First there were 'Rockefeller Republicans' and now what I call 'Bush Republicans'. Those who wish to go the 'moderate/liberal' route. They got that in McCain (and others). Worked out quite well for them didn't it?

Based on the current 'leadership' of the party, it is for all and intent and purposes a corpse, a shell of its former self. Part of purpose of two parties is for one to be the opposition to the other. I would be just as appalled if the Dem rolled over as the GOP now is. One party control leads to nothing but stagnation.

"Do not confuse those of us who believe that (Conservatives) with those that currently lead the party. (Republicans)"

You support them, give them money, vote for them. You say the same things they say. Why wouldn't I confuse the two groups? They consist of all the same people. The Republican party is dead, the Conservative movement is dead; same people, same beliefs, same cause of death.

You're creating this completely nonexistent split solely to avoid responsibility for your own failures.
Raven writes: Friday, January, 23, 2009 12:33 AM
Again
you speak of something you know nothing about. Me. Also know nothing of the difference between the two because you are looking from the outside in. Very difficult to see what is going on from that vantage point.

Since the Republican party has not truly been Conservative in some time it is hard to relate the downward plunge of the party with Conservatism.

The only ones that have 'failed' is the party itself. It has failed the Conservatives by trying so desperately to be more like the other party, in the misguided idea that it would make them liked. Again that hasn't worked out quite that way for them.

If the party continues on its current path of simply rolling over and trying to be like the other party then the party will be truly dead. After all why would someone vote for a liberal big government type wanna be, when they could vote for the real thing. (Democrats)

We were all awful for not suppoeting Bush but Obama? We'll not touch that subject. McCain may not have been her man but she wanted Palin. Why? Because Palin would pave the way for her own fasicist nonsense done the road. Not like she's not getting away with it right here in MN. God is spelled Dog backward Bachmann. Look in the Mirror.

Its Friday, girlfriend. You need to go out and have a drink......Its called BDS...and it sounds like you still have it.

If there ever was a time to go out and create a huge stimulus / spending / wellfare bill it would have been 9/12/2001.

The pain the US is in right now is due to 2 of the biggest liberal policy failures in the US.

#1 Failure to have a sustained self sufficient energy policy. To appease the Greenies
#2 CRA and Fannie / Freddie Support of it. To appease the lazy.

Take those 2 elements out of the last 24 month equation and you get an economy a H#LL of a lot better than it is now.......

We are about to enter into Liberal Failure #3...that being the government playing "GOD" and sending monies for pet projects with the hopeless goal of "stimulating" the economy.

But no, Kim.....its all about the Alinsky tactic about tearing down the person......

Sometimes its about being a Patriot.....sometimes its simply learning from history......

This is French for "do what the moonbats say"

What I've learned is that Liberals are FVCKING masterful at laying blame......and the talking heads on the idiot box are their sausage cadddies.

Here is the Liberal playbook.
1..Find a person to Attack.
2..Create a premise with which to attack that person.
3..Continually attack on that premise.
4..Marginalize the Character of the person based upon continual attacks.

Using the above......"o:" was elected as the candidate of "look at them" "I'm not them" "vote for me" just like all the other lying liberals that try to get into office for nothing other than having power.......

Click on my name and read about the wasted money the government says we need to spend. This is ludicrous and you COW supporters think it will save you.

Here's s thought.

1 trillion dollars...do you know how many zeros follow that?
Well, let me put that money in real terms.
It is 3k per person to make that money "magically materialize". Now, it is borrowed money, right? Yep. (based on 350 million populus)

So now, take that over 30 years plus interest. My kids will be paying back 500,000 dollars because this Administration wants to create more sheisse programs that mostly already exist.

Is that what you really want?
How about that money in your pocket? How much would we stimulate the economy if my family of 6 got 18k? You do the math.
Sheer lunacy to spend money that is not even earned. Credit SUCKS.

The Fairtax, by eliminating the morally reprehensible act of extortion...oops, I meant withholding, takes a huge chunk of political power from the, well, power-brokers. The Fairtax is also a flat tax. Now I'd be much happier if they got rid of this quaint notion about keeping it 'revenue neutral' by maintaining the rate 23%. Why not set the rate where it creates the most productivity? Because that would mean a rate much closer to zero.

This is another anachronism tantamount to price-controls, and gee doesn't that work well.

If a min wage of $7 is better than $5, why isn't $15 better yet? Why not $50? Eliminating this most idiotic piece of legislation would go a long way to lowering the unemployment rate.

"How about farm subsidies collected by wealthy nonfarmers like Bachmann?"

Monkeywrench plowed this field back on January 13th.

On her disclosure forms, Bachmann lists “Bachmann Farm Family LP, Independence, WI,” as an asset with a value up to $250,000, that produced 2006 income for her of between $2,501-$5,000. The farm is owned and operated by her husband's brother, not Michelle Bachmann.

Michelle Bachmann is a wealthy farmer? It's only one letter that separates cheap shot from cheap $hit. At least try to be honest Monkeywrench.

Michele Bachmann has done nothing illegal by collecting these federal farm subsidies. The establishment of a limited partnership for a farming operation no doubt is to reduce her tax liability—i.e., a tax shelter. Democrats never use tax shelters, right?

Bachmann never denied that she received the subsidy.

Obama's Treasury appointee, Geithner, failed to pay his taxes and only did so when he got caught. Now that is an act that of obfuscation and dishonesty so you must really admire that guy, right?

Come back when you have something more worthwhile to say.

http://minnesotaindependent.com/26721/bachmanns-statements- on-stimulus-raise-a-few-eyebrows

Michelle Bachmann again proved how unintelligent she is. She says that this new stimulus bill has enough money in it to write a check to every man, woman, and child in the world for the amount of $1,430. So I got my 50 cent calculator out and divided 787 billion (amount of dollars in the stimulus bill) by 6.8 billion (amount of people currently in the world) and I came up with $115.74. I calculated it three times to make sure I was correct. I’m not sure how Michelle learned to do simple math but she really needs to go back to elementary school to get it right. We need intelligent people who can not only do simple math but can also comprehend stimulus bills far beyond our expertise in office.
