Thanks to the efforts of Senator John McCain, President Obama's nominee for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Craig Becker, has hit a road block in the confirmation process. Senator McCain currently has a legislative hold on the nomination, so 60 votes are needed before the Senate can proceed to an up-or-down vote on Becker.

This is crucial, because Becker is yet another Obama nominee with views too extreme for mainstream America. Mr. Becker, who is associate general counsel at the SEIU (Service Employees International Union), ACORN’s Siamese-twin-like ally, is a staunch advocate for "card check," which would take away the secret ballot for American workers.

Perhaps worst of all, Becker has written that the NLRB should be able to enact card check even without Congressional action.  Unions could get what they want without Members of Congress having to face the music from their constituents.

According to the Wall Street Journal, "In a 1993 Minnesota Law Review article, written when he was a UCLA professor, Mr. Becker argued for rewriting current union-election rules in favor of labor.  And he suggested the NLRB could do so by regulatory fiat, without a vote in Congress."

In essence, he’d strip American workers of the secret ballot and Congress would be entirely unaccountable to the American people for doing so!

If card check passed, intimidation and harassment would run rampant in the workplace when voting to unionize. The right to a secret ballot is as American as it gets, and to take that privilege away for union gains is simply wrong. The decision about whether to unionize is a serious one and the process should be conducted with safeguards in place.

Can Some Lib-Lefty PLEASE Tell Me What

I'd be happy to explain it to you, but first, could you tell us what you meant when you said, "May Muncky and his minions be at our next ground zero at 0-hour and send news from those spits in hell as to how moral equivalence worked for'um."

Or, after George Tiller was murdered in his church, "Sometimes Karma Just Can't Be Denied...Baa-Daa-Bing. Like Dat!"

Good Answer, Comrade Vlad...
As on-point as I fully expected. Oh, and consider your delicate self a 'minion'..:-)

Righties: Now, let me ask again..What is the stated-logic-reasoning for the Lib-Left to be adamantly AGAINST the Secret Ballot re-Unionizing?

Well Neo,,,
I'm not a lib-lefty but the way I understand it unions don't like secret ballots when trying to unionize a company because most people opt out of unionizing and union leadership{intimidation thugs}dont't know who voted what.

If there's no secret ballot union{thug}organizers can use their tried and true intimidation tactics to force people to vote their way.A test case was tried at a parts company in the mid west without the secret ballot and the union won.

However a lot of people complained that they were threatened at work and at their homes. The NLRB told them they had to have another election this time with a secret ballot. The union lost.

Becker joins the list of undesirables.
When is the supposed to be smartest President going to get it right? The ill equiped Obama hid his radicaL, SOCIALIST/MARXIST LEANINGS RATHER WELL. NOW THAT HE HAS WON THE ELECTION, HE SEEMS OBLIVIOUS TO WHAT PROUD AMERICANS CARE ABOUT? A ONE TERMER FOR SURE! THE MAJORITY OF US ARE NOT GLUTTONS FOR PUNISHMENT,HA! WILL SOMEONE WITH DISCRETION AND WISDOM GUIDE THE INSENSITIVE, WAYWARD, THOUGHTLESS, ARROGANT PREZ., IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION?! MISGUIDED OBAMAS 'UN'AMERICAN INTENTIONS ARE NOT THE CHANGE AND HOPE, TRUSTING FOLKS BARGAINED FOR!

Neo did you notice that Vladie
instead of answering your question, posed 2 irrelevant questions? My the "remarkable" skills libs demonstrate in "answering" questions!!!!
I daresay they, lefties, fear that the rank-and-file members might NOT be so amenable to unionization---just a Conservative's thinking!
Craig writes: Thursday, October, 22, 2009 1:23 PM
Liberal argument
The liberal argument against card check is clear. Secret ballot elections have slowed union drives.

Actually the biggest issue is forced arbitration. That is a far bigger pro-union device than card check.

this is scary. if mccain, a rino, thinks this guy is questionable, then he must be horrible!!

Free Choice?????
The main flaw with Card Check is that proposed law ONLY allows it to be used to join a union. It can not be used to change from one union to another, nor to remove a union. Yet another Orwellian named program to hide the hypocrisy of the radical Leftist Liberal agenda.

Obama's Card Check Nominee
Does anyone have a total for the number of "duds" Obama has already tried to load his appointee gun with so far? What will it take before the left begins to question Obama's loyalty to this country?

Card Check
as a 35 year member of a trade union ladies and gentlemen, never trust a union. verify. the secret ballot is the only option worth having. i do not trust unions and i am a member. i have seen enough shady dealings that would make the old soviet system proud. you want to be union, that is your right. you do not want to be union that too is your right.

Tree of Liberty is Parched!
If ObaMao's administration doesn't stop trying to takeover our lives using the Unions and "community organizers" he better get used to looking at the world from insight the gates of the White House, because more and more people are getting fed up each day and the frustration is slowly turning into outrage!

Once the unions are in place and on board
with Obama, the white house approved pay scales for ALL worker will be unveiled. Think it won't happen? It already is.

All Responding Righties: Thank You, But
I'm still not being clear enough in framing my question, apparently. I fully know the underlying fear, manipulation and true reasons for the Lib-left-Union Dweebs being against the Secret Ballot...But, WHAT is their "stated" reasoning for being against secret ballots. What is their 'for public consumption' BS-alleged reason(s)??

To whit: They're NOT saying,"We want to diminish your liberty, intimidate your voting and expose your vote for possible thuggery & bullying."

What is their STATED Reason(s)?

Neo
Greetings, I've never heard one of them try to give a rational explanation for eliminating secret ballots. They generally stick to the script of "easier organizing". No one is the State Run Media will question them about secret ballots, they will assist in making card check seem as benign as possible. Dede Scozzafava R-candidate in NY-23 special election supports card check. The RNCC just delivered her a big wad of cash, my own Rep. Eric Cantor (spit) donated to her, Newt went and campaigned for her, says she's the future of the party. Pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, pro-stimulus, bailouts, etc, etc, etc, .........she's a Democrat. In this case she's to the left of her Democratic opponent. What we have called RINO's ARE the real Republicans, conservatives are kidding themselves if they think the GOP represents conservatives.

You are too late ...

...Mccain! Sure, it's nice you decided to join the battle against the statist elites that want THE POWER to run our lives. Thanks for blocking this SEIU stooge, but you should have thought of this last year, when you had Sarah and could have gotten the backing of middle America and prevented this Obamanation Nightmare in the first place.

So keep doing penance, senator, but don't think for a second you will ever be in a position of trust ever again.

NeoConScum: Pro-EFCA position explained
Here is a link from Slate that does a pretty good job of explaining the pro - EFCA (Employee Free Choice Act)position. There is also a link in this article to a docmument with "Facts Behind the Employee Free Choice Act". From what I can tell, the process always starts with the cards. Employers can then choose whether to recognize the union right away based on the cards, or whether to force an election. EFCA supporters argue that employers use the time between when the cards are presented and when the election is held to intimidate employees to vote against unionization. They say allowing card check would lead to LESS inimidation and coercion, especially on the part of employers.
