Amongst the several revenue-raising proposals in President Obama’s $3.9-trillion budget proposal is a carbon tax that will impact all American families.  His budget aims to raise $646 billion through a cap-and-trade tax on energy.

Last year, Peter Orszag, who was then Director of the Congressional Budget Office and is now President Obama’s Director for the Office of Management and Budget, testified before the House Ways and Means Committee on a similar proposal.  Speaking about a cap-and-trade proposal to cut carbon emissions by 15%, he said it would cost the average household about $1,300 a year through higher energy costs.  He also noted that working class families would be hardest hit.

President Obama’s current proposal aims to cut carbon emissions by more than 3 times that of last year’s proposal – 83%.  John Feehery, writing in The Hill's Pundits Blog last week, noted that using Director Orszag’s analysis, this would mean that the average family will pay close to $4,000 a year, or $333 a month.

The White House seems to acknowledge that the costs of this tax will impact low-income families hardest and suggests a $500-a-year subsidy.  But, that doesn’t even cover two-months cost for the average family.  And, it doesn’t take into account the increased costs for everything from groceries to school supplies that a carbon tax will also impose on everyone.  We had a little taste of that last summer with the increased fuel costs adding to the costs of just about all consumer goods and I’m not sure American families want to return to that budget-busting scenario.

Conservatism is the new Black
Congresswoman, I am sure glad you are out there pushing conservative principles. Sometimes we conservatives take for granted that conservatism is understood but rejected. In fact, most Americans are conservative in their daily lives. But with people like you and Rush we can explain to people what it means to be a conservative. And surprisingly most Americans get it. Just don't forget that we are one generation away from loosing our freedoms. God bless.

This is a bad idea...
It fails to take into account that a lot of the alternative ground work needed to reduce carbon emissions are not in place yet: rail lines, nuclear plants, etc.

Conservatism!
Most people are conservative in their lives. Conservatism however as a movement seems to float aimless from lack of leadership and we never seem to answer the baseless claims constantly leveled against us by the left. It is true if you belittle a person or an idea constantly it becomes truth. We are to polite and the last 8 years we have had a pretend conservative in charge. I however live in hope that truth and that is what conservatism is truth, will spring eternal like the PHoenix.

Greenie: Oooo, global warming! We need cap and trade!

Someone who reads: That'll drive gas prices through the roof, you know, like last summer?

Greenie: Drive electric cars!

SWR: The ones available wouldn't move a slightly overweight midget and cost five times that of a Cadillac.

Greenie: Don't care! It's global warming! And no more natural gas and coal!

SWR: You've already blocked nuclear power. Do we now freeze to death?

Greenie: Just install solar panels and turbines on your house!

SWR: Okay. Who's giving me a million dollars to do that?

Greenie: Pay for it yourself! It's global warming! Oooo!

Please keep up your hard work to block this type of thievery in our Government. It's just like the tax change that's going to go through in April- we all get an extra $50 a month in our paycheck to take home but there is no reduction in the actuall taxes owed so we will have to pay it back next april in the form of taxes owed. Dirty tricks from money hungery idots.

Another gigantic "sin" tax - but this..
time - if "they don't do it" we will "all die" in a worldwide out of control "warming extinction" that Al gore and his "congressional social scientists" witnessed to congress was sure to come without " brash and expensive and immediate action".
Talk about a government run on EMERGENCIES....
I would have hoped there would be at least a gigantic flood and a dozen tidal waves from "rising oceans" or some half decade "dust bowl" or SOMETHING - some big disaster before the libtards decided to "take over, take veryone money, and claim to be "saving the world" as they and their best buddies got rich off of it" - but these democrats DON'T NEED ANY DISASTER - like 911 - heck they just "claim it's coming" and off to 100X the "spending of Bush" (even though congress spends, not the president)...
Doomsayers - with several APOCALYPSE at their SUPERGIGANTIC TAX INCREASES fingertips...
And if they don't do it - we will ALL DIE.
Gosh, at least Bush actually had 3000 dead, and a smoking hole smackdab in the center of the NYC financial "world market".
So, reminds me of Hitlery and her 3 APOCALYPSE foreign policy babbling quote over there to Russia or China - whatever it was...
Yes, the queen kooker yappered up the terror, the global warming, and the world market meltdown...
GREAT - 3 WORLD ENDING APOCALI' FOR THE SCHIESTERS TO GANK FROM EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE...

$13 a week
Well according to my math you 95% of the people getting the great tax cut Obama promised will be quite a bit short on paying for you energy bills. Lets see the taxes raised to cover this plan will be approximately $1,300 per year and you will probably get less than $500.00 a year as the weekly $13.00 tax cut I understand will go down to $8.00 shortly. You will be short about $800.00 a year or an extra $66.00+ a month. Well aren't you glad you voted for this guy. Don't be surprised if the energy tax has to be raised considerably more as the government never tells the truth when it comes to these expenditures. What a liar your dear President is.

What's wrong with tax incentives?
Investments in the stock market are subsidized by radically reduced capital gains rates. Why not do the same thing to encourage conservation and the development of alternative energy sources?

The primary advantage of wind, solar, geothermal, and hydroelectric energy is that they can all be brought on-line in a relatively short time frame, whereas drilling in ANWR and off the coasts will take about five years, and it would take ten to build the newest generation of thorium flouride reactors (much less toxic waste than conventional reactors). Coal has unsolved problems, as well.

Liberal agenda
When President Obama was elected, he quickly pulled out the book of far left nutty ideas that would have never made it politically. In the name of the recession President Obama is getting the liberal nut agenda passed. This is only the beginning. It has nothing to do with we have to do something. President Obama has convinced the people that it's so bad, whatever he does is going to help the economy. How will taxing the people help the economy.

We're doomed
If the Anthrogenic CO2 Induced Climate Change hypothesis is actually to any degree true, and the changes are necessarily disastrous as the dogma insists, then it inevitably will hit us. You'd better hope this thing is as bogus as it looks.

Do you really think "cap-&-trade" will reduce CO2 emissions to some acceptable level? Where do you set the "cap" and based on what? If the "cap" was really low enough to have any effect, there'd be nothing left to "trade." Not to mention we'd starve & freeze in the dark.

Nevermind the fact that China, India, etc, will merrily spew all the CO2 they want, including what it takes to do all the heavy industry we can export. The ACO2ICC dogma is important enough for US to perform economic seppuku, but not to penalize imports of goods made using cheap coal energy. That's what all this code about US "leadership" on this is about. The Kyoto accord exposed that scam over a decade ago when it explicitly let almost everyone besides us, Canada, Japan, & West Europe off the hook as "developing" countries, even Australia and South Korea!

Don't forget, this was another issue on which Johnnie Mack blew off a chance to offer an alternative viewpoint, & instead touted his own me-too arbitrary C&T scheme.

That's right, ALL Americans will pay
As with income taxes, the Left practices divide-&-conquer by trying to shield the demographics that support the Dems from the immediate visible effect as much as possible. That's what "progressive" taxation and credits/subsidies are about. If "the other guy" pays the actual tax, the secondary effects are invisible to and ignored by the naive, self-described-victims, and the parasites.

The bad economy could provide cover for the agenda Clinton balked at so as not to endanger his "good economy" (read that a series of bubbles, the biggest of which is now popping) by even sending the Kyoto Treaty to the Senate.

It's easy to blame lost jobs, nonexistent opportunity, & pervasive gvmt micromanagement on an amorphous "bad economy" allegedly caused by nasty 'ol rich Republicans, instead of the systematic confiscation of private wealth & the smothering of private initiative.

Furthermore, wouldn't making a revenue source out of carbon fuel become a perverse incentive to encourage it?

Beastie, I actually think you sorta have a point. Why is little or none of this "stimulus" concerned with actually building solar, wind, & wave generators, or incentivizing them? Instead, the narrative always seems to be about mandating electric utilities to build the useless things, & absorbing the losses. Hey, these rich greenies can easily bankroll "renewable" plants & sell to the power grid ... BUT THEY DON'T! Wonder why? Because it's a rathole as a business proposition?

It's truly getting hard to breath!!!
Let me get this straight....

I've lost my job...

Can't even get an interview...

We are really not getting by on my wifes tiny little part time job and what I can make working odd jobs...

Getting the monthly fuel bills for the home and autos turns out blood cold in anticipation...

NObamaElMessiah is coming to our rescue by providing hundreds of government funded construction jobs to the illegals around here, while promising me $13 dollars a week increase in welfare....

NObamaElMessiah says he is going to make my wife and I opening those monthly fuel bills an even more stressful event???

Now NObamaElMessiah says he will increase capital gains taxes on anyone who might ever consider hiring me???

George Washington may have said the Brits would tax the air you breath...

Well clearly George never met NObama...

For NObama will collect taxes today on the air your great grandchildren will every breath.

Immedicate reduction of CO2 emissions
In physiology in medical school it was explained to me that the end product of human metabolism is CO2. So, if I understand the principle taught me by Dr. O, to live we must produce CO2. I also remember a lecture where Dr. O explained how humans exhale CO2 with each breath. So, I have come up with a quick plan for CO2 reduction. If the proponents of global warming, cap-and-trade, and protecting the environment would do the right thing -- and stop breathing indefinitely -- CO2 levels would begin to drop. Come on guys be patriotic and do the right thing FOR THE POLAR BEARS!!!

A dose of simple economics
Two Efforts earlier from a kool-aid drinker who calls himself Beastie.Where did you learn economics,Columbia U. from Prof. Ayers? Free markets are the only viable system of sustainable growth the world has ever used.Every other system of"punish the evil corporations" and redistribute their wealth results in the killing of the goose that lays golden eggs. The gov. gets a short term gain and then the revenues get lss every year as people are laid off to pay the tax hikes. This starts the inevitable string of events that ends with the company going out of business or being government owned.Gov.owned means wages are recycled tax dollars.Gov.does not create a cent and never will. The private sector creates all wealth and tax incentives frees up money earned by the Joe the plumbers of the world to reinvest, spend, expand, save, give to charity-non of these are bad.I'll keep my fredoms, you keep the chains.
