I told you yesterday I'd be posting a recent column I sent to local Chambers and Rotaries in my district, and here it is.

I'd love to know your thoughts about the legislation mentioned within it, namely the Spending Limit Amendment, the Truth in Accounting Act, and the Tax Increase Prevention Act.

If Congress was to successfully pursue these three measures, our economy would have the solid foundation it needs to get us going on all cylinders once again.

Taxes and a potential conflict with Iran
Dear Mrs. Bachmann,

How would your tax policy change should the likely military conflict with Iran unfold?
Monkeywrench writes: Tuesday, May, 20, 2008 4:24 PM
But just last month you said this

So if the economy was doing so well just last month, why do we need to get going on all cylinders again?

Response to Monkeywrench
Monkeywrench: It's amazing what you can do with video editing software these days. 48 seconds of footage with music in the background isn't enough to fool people who really think it through.

At times during the past decade, the American economy has yielded unparalleled success. In fact, the policies that the Republican Congress passed in 2001 and 2003 led to several quarters of robust economic growth and 52 consecutive months of job creation, the longest continuous run of job growth in history.

The facts are that since the Democrats have taken control of Congress, they have put our economy on a crash course for disaster … and the American taxpayers are starting to pay the price.

Most notably, Democrat leaders in Congress are promoting a 2009 budget that would raise taxes by $683 billion over the next five years along with billions of dollars in new spending.

That doesn't sound to me like a formula for prosperity.

The 683 billion you talk about Dave; Is that about the amount we will spend in Iraq over the next 5 years?

At what point do we start thinking about paying off our debt and paying for the war.

If every family had to pony up an extra $2000 a year and was told that the money was going to pay for the Iraq war would we still object? Would you?

How much do we owe Social Security since we have been "borrowing" from the reserves for years now. Should we start paying that back?

Why do we give Exxon billions in tax breaks when they are recording the largest profits in history? At the same time we lowered the lease payment they pay the government. How did that happen? Does Exxon need this incentive to drill for oil?

One other question: I see a lot of ad's on this site. Who makes the money from these ad's?

Prosperity comes from net worth. Trillion dollar debt must be accounted for.

Interesting point, taxpayer
Is Bachmann using government funds and government employees to create a blog that generates revenue, and for whom? Sounds like a bit of an ethical problem doesn't it? But then, it wouldn't be the first ethical problem Michele Bachmann has had in her political career.

Where is Michelle hiding now?
So now we can contact crazy michelle through a blog. Seems like the unreachable nut is finding more ways to appear busy and not be accessible in person - just like her phony townhall meetings on a phone. But then for phoney michelle thats the norm.
Can't wait to kick her dumb rear out of office and send her back to the counseling center that may just do her some good, but that's wishful thinking. We need Tinklenberg now than ever!!! Go El and good ridance to Crazy Michelle!!!

hmmmm
Social security has been borrowing money for years. and goes all the way back to LBJ days. It is nothing new on that. Even if all the money was put back in a real trust fund then that money used for SS, Then that money would only last about 3-5 years. Go see the figures on how much goes out each year in SS payments. And then think of where is the work force in a few years as us old work gezzers get older and want to slow down some. I guess i should just get use to the idea of working till i drop and my wife has me buried one day.

Where is half of the federal budget going now each year. Answer to SS, Medicare and medicaid. So what happens in future years when these 3 programs start to soak up 60%? How about 65% or 70%?

I wonder how hard it is to move to Texas since they don,t have a state income tax or capital gains tax.

Sigh. If you're just going to be a troll, save the world some oxygen and die already.

If you actually have some legitimate points to bring up, then start doing it and quit wasting our time.

Thanks for the question St. Cloud Sam
St. Cloud Sam, we would need to buckle down more than ever to cut wasteful government spending and excessive pork from our budget.

Congress needs to come to realize that your hard-earned money is not Monopoly money. We can’t keep spending on anything under the sun, like Teapot Museums and fruit fly Research in Paris, France.

If Congress was really serious about helping hard working Americans, they would need to drastically reduce their penchant for spending, both Democrats and Republicans.
taxpayer writes: Wednesday, May, 21, 2008 7:00 PM
More info please
So you're going to fund the new Iran war by cutting the fruit fly research and teapot museums.

That should take care of the 1st few seconds of the next war but how will we fund the next several years.

I thought St. Cloud Sam asked a good question. Could you give him a better thought out answer?

For example: what programs should be cut that affect Minnesota or the 6th district?

OUR money isn't yours to spend on wars
You seem to have it wrong, Congresswoman. It's OUR hard-earned money that YOU are throwing away on wars of choice, and maybe you better get it straight that people in the 6th CD are sick and tired of it. I suggest you drastically reduce your penchant for spending on killing people, which you seem to have a real thing for. How many more people need to die in the Middle East for you to be happy? Are you still in favor of using the "nuclear option" on Iran? How many innocent Iranian civilians--kids--are you willing to incinerate to prove your point?

With any luck at all you'll be retired before you have an opportunity to answer that for us.

Saving Taxpayer Money
I am all for saving our hard earned money from wasteful spending. However, lately it seems that the illustrious Michelle Bachmann-Bush just can't seem to control her own spending.
For the past month I have been hammered with phone calls inviting me to wasteful town hall meetings where you can't even speak to her. Most of the time they come during hours when no one is home or when we are in the middle of dinner.
Secondly, I can now wall paper my house with all the crazy postcards that Michelle is mailing out. None of them explains anything other than trying to make it look like she is "busy as a bee" right before she gets voted out of office.
If Michelle Bachmann-Bush were really that busy she could at least explain many of the reasons she opposed the many bills which would have helped the people in her district- the same constituents who will now dump her.
Oh sure I understand, she has franking privileges to spend and waste our hard earned tax dollars, but that doesn't mean she has to spend them friviously down to the last penny.
we will all continue to live up to her expectations of being the "workingest people" since we all need to work 2 or 3 jobs just so she can keep wasting our tax dollars on massive mailings during this wonderful period of prosperity, high gas prices, high unemployment and minimum wages.
Just as she voted NO to so many bills that would benefit our district and state, we will all vote NO to Michelle Bachmann-Bush this fall.
