This afternoon my House colleagues and I toured the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado. Essentially, we got to take a stroll through our nation’s energy future and I’ve got to say, the lab is doing absolutely incredible work.

Photobucket

The lab’s purpose is to find fresh renewable ways to power our homes, businesses, and cars, a key component of the Republicans’ All-of-the-Above energy plan. They are developing cutting edge methods to use wind, solar, biomass, and fuel cell technologies more efficiently.

What I was most impressed with was the work that the lab is doing with a variety of vehicles run by renewable energy including: Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles, Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles, and Solar Hybrid Electric Vehicles. We also investigated the programs of Wind to Hydrogren Technologies and received an overview of the Lab’s Biomass Technologies.

America's priority must be to lessen its dependence on foreign sources of oil. They only way we will achieve true energy independence is to combine the latest technologies from NREL and similar government and private sector labs throughout the country with increased domestic exploration of our own natural resources.

We’ve got a long plane ride ahead to Alaska. I’ll be sure to check in again to share with you what I learn in ANWR.

Bachman for President
Scott Johnson at Powerline brings up a good point. Here is a teaser: "I'm Feelin' Good About McCain"

I found my Nixon/Agnew and Ford/Dole buttons but I'm still looking for my WIN button. I knew it would be a collector's item someday. I should have taken better care of it.

All right I've HAD IT with the insanely goofy TH software. Why can't the links post correctly consistently? And why do some of my posts appear twice? And why are the problems so random? If there is one thing I know about computers, it is that there should be no randomness. Random errors reveal very bad programming. Could you guys please get your act together?!@?

Too bad Bush proposed cutting
funding for NREL....conservatives only pay lip service to this stuff, totally not serious about serious investment. That's why we're 8 years into the Bush disaster, and we have no energy plan!

Déjà vu
Rep Bachmann says
"America's priority must be to lessen its dependence on foreign sources of oil. They only way we will achieve true energy independence is to combine the latest technologies from NREL and similar government and private sector labs throughout the country with increased domestic exploration of our own natural resources"

Sounds like President Carter's energy policy that was dismatled by President Reagan; the same President Carter that Michele Bachmann campaigned for.

I wonder if Rep Bachmann is experiencing a Déjà vu moment

Bush cut $$ for the NREL

Don't listen to this b.s. Bachmann is a rubber stamp for Bush's budget, and I'd bet the farm that Bachmann supported Bush's budget on cutting funding for the National Renewable Energy Lab:

http://www.denverpost.com/headlines/ci_5164448

Washington - President Bush's 2008 budget proposes cutting funding for Colorado's National Renewable Energy Lab while pushing a 38 percent increase in programs advancing nuclear energy.

The 2008 fiscal year NREL budget still has an increase from 2006, and the decrease is from a 2007 proposed budget that was never signed into law.

But Democrats in Colorado's congressional delegation criticized the proposal as a lack of commitment to renewable energy, despite the president's pledge in the State of the Union address to reshuffle the nation's energy portfolio.

"It appears the president's all talk, frankly," said Democratic Rep. Mark Udall of Eldorado Springs. "When the renewable side and the efficiency side gets a 5 percent increase and nuclear gets an increase of 38 percent and fossil fuels an increase of 33 percent, that just isn't very balanced."

Yep, and it appears that Michele Bachmann is all talk too.

Oh, GREENgos...
...come up with a VIABLE renewable source that The People can actually use and afford, and it will become REALITY. Right now they are only figments of your depraved, ecotheistic imaginations. When a real alternative energy does come up, make sure your leaders lead by example and don't stand in the way, like Ted Kennedy and the wind generators.

Meanwhile, if imagined alternative sources are the answer, why lock up the EXISTING energy sources and deprive The People of their use? More nuclear power plants would alleviate some of the need to burn coal for electrical production and provide more electricity to power electric vehicles. More drilling would increase oil supplies as demand is increasing. There is nothing wrong with deploying VIABLE solar power, wind power, pig sh*t methane power, whatever...but I bet whatever it is, there will be an ecotheistic, enviro whacko group that will try to block its deployment.

Carbon fatprint
why should we be concerned with any of this? When all we have to do is purchase carbon offsets from Big Al.And don't forget your racial offsets from Rev Al!

You can take one for the team
Like the Gorecle.

Sure Al Gore's energy consumption (when you add up private jets to Norway, his megamansion in Nashville, etc.) could power a small city. But look at all the carbon credits stored around his waste. Doesn't that count for anything?

I love my carbon footprint!!! I increased it in the last year to protect us from the coming ice age :-).

Renewable energy is good
I am a conservative and I really appreciate this post because so many conservatives are so busy questioning global warming that they ignore the larger issue. This post is not an example of that and puts the main issue in focus. Global warming or no, we need to become energy independent.

Instead of making fun of Al Gore, why don't republicans just steal the issue away from the democrats, put together some really good, workable, non-oil or coal ideas and give us a SOLUTION.
Vonnie writes: Sunday, July, 20, 2008 8:32 AM
Democrat subjects
I was beginning to think as waterorton.

What are Democrat's biggest issues on energy. I see it as Conservation, Alternate Energy, Clean Energy, Investigations.

I believe conservation is mostly to give more time for alternate energy to develop. Present a conservation plan that gives a tax break for proof that home electricity has a large drop since the previous year. Anything that is creative without becoming big brother that shows we too are serious about conservation. Also, include how much time this conservation will give, like another x years per person.

Visiting this Energy Lab is great. It proves to the Democrats we are serious. I hope you have much to report.

We have clean energy on drilling and coal. Present what are these developments.

Present all the prior investigations, what was their purpose, and what was the results.

I know you have limited time for debates. Possibly, the Democrats might consider we are all in this together. And maybe, the Democrats will listen and not block vote against everything without any consideration.

sloandog writes: Sunday, July, 20, 2008 11:08 AM
I feel you waterorton
I am all for clean energy and conservation don't know any fellow conservatives that don't want to be good stewards of the enviroment, and if common sense measures are passed that are good for the environment cloaked under the label(global warming)I'm okay with that.I just don't want knee jerk legislation forced upon me because of pressure applied by a deranged carpetbagger and his wacko supporters.Everyone agrees alternative energy sources are the goal, now can we reach that goal sanely.
Paul writes: Sunday, July, 20, 2008 1:02 PM
Let's adopt an ALL OF THE ABOVE SOLUTION
By saying we are for attacking the energy problem from ALL fronts............we can WIN on this issue........Because We would be RIGHT!!!
sloandog writes: Sunday, July, 20, 2008 3:30 PM
If only Paul.
The solution would require our elected officials to act with courage and commonsense to disregard their petty agendas for the common good. What are the odds of this happening?Right now it's all about "revenge politics" and it's the dems turn to exact it, the country be damned!

The lord giveth
and the lord taketh away. This earth is ours to live on and use. All of it. Every drop of oil ,every wisp of natural gas, every chunk of coal, the winds that blow, and the rushing tides. Global warming is a channel for Gore and other like minded ticked off failures to get rich! We know the earth has changed for ...well we are not sure...but forever. Even if we have records of "climate change" for the past 500 years what about the previous 500 years and before that? Yah yah don't pollute(anymore than we have to)don't litter, recycle, ok ok we got it. But stop our progress so they can make a name for themselves and get rich? No way not this American. I'll scream it over and over again. If we had the nerve (like PINK) and were so obnoxious and in your face maybe then we'd make the biased MSM!!!
Cuban Pete writes: Monday, July, 21, 2008 12:00 PM
What's so dam* important...
...about excluding the major, viable, tried-and-true, energy sources and clamoring for alternative energies? The illogic is so tremendous; the lack of rationality is so abysmal; the chutzpah is so awesome! Use it all! It's ours!
