While the Democrats rushed home for a month long recess, Republicans stuck around to talk energy...despite the lights and microphones being turned off. It's too bad the Democrats didn't think it worthwhile to work with us to pass some much needed energy legislation. The President can and should call the House back immediately so we can debate and vote on the legislation that has been offered to deal with rising energy costs. Pelosi may not agree with the solution's being proposed, but the American people at least deserve a vote.

Good job
Michele.

Spot on.

The GOP should be hammering home the point that Democrat Congressmen can afford to take a summer vacation, spending our tax dollars while prices are so high.

Keep at it. Use this time to your advantage. Hammer them while they lay on a beach spending tax dollars.

THANKS MICHELE AND HOUSE REPS
Way to go House Republicans. I hope someone is videotaping the festivities for YouTube etc. Keep it up! Why don't y'all lock the Dems out so they can't return?

So I assume that W is spending August in Washington, working on our many problems? Kennebunkport will be vacant, Crawford a ghost town? Just like all previous Augusts?

energy for the people
the horrible irony to the Democrats lack of leadership on energy/gas pricing is that they are sacrificing their constituency to the alter of environmentalism at any cost...

even if the cost is the jobs and income of taxidrivers, warehouse workers, autoworkers, truckers...

all of the working families in America both Democratic and Republican are watching the price of food, clothing, gas, electricity skyrocket because of production and transportation costs...

the school districts will struggle this year to bus children to school, to heat/cool the classrooms, to place food on the lunchtrays...

yes we can generate windfarms and solar collectors, invent fuelcells that will eventually replace some of our energy needs...

if the technology is available now, why isn't Nancy Pelosi using it to fuel her gov't supplied jet to commute to California from DC?

we are instructed to sacrifice and conserve energy (as if we are not already), while the Democratic leadership jets back and forth from one campaign/fundraiser event to the next, prattling about inflating our tires, and the evil oil who make the astronomical (evil) profit of 10cents per gallon after taxes.....

i drive a vehicle with 35mpg, i set my thermostat at 82F, i have designed the landscaping for passive shading in summer and passive solar gain in winter...i have a solar water heater....

its time for the Democratic Leadership to step up with more than facile rhetoric...they don't want more american petroleum exploration, but have threatened to sue OPEC for not supplying us with more???

the environmental fanaticism at the cost of all common sense could cost the economy, it is absolutely cost their constituency...but they don't seem to care.

if it wasn't so horrible i would laugh.

Thank you House Republicans!
As you can see, the country is so proud of you Republican Representatives!! You've energized the right and many independents with your awesome display of candor. As a Conservative I can finally say that I am proud of you folks in Washington for standing up to Nancy's Socialist rule. I hope there are plans to rotate Representatives and keep the House chamber open and keep the discussions flowing until Pelosi is forced by President Bush to come back to Washington and hammer an energy bill out. Keep up the excellent work, we love you!!!!

The Pres is already for drilling and has lifted some bans his father put in place. His job, on energy, is done until Congress takes action.

PS - As much as it upsets you lefties, Bush isn't running for POTUS again.

Prayers of the left
The left has to secretly be praying that McCain is elected. Who are they going to hate with a rabid passion once Bush is out of office? On whom will they blame EVERYTHING once he is former President Bush?

I am sure if Obama is elected (God forbid), they will blame anything that goes wrong (and with that man's policy intentions it will be much) on the Bush administration, but how long can they get away with that? The American people do not exactly hold the press in high esteem, so how long can they prop him up?

If it wouldn't be such a national disaster, I would hope for an Obama presidency just so we could see the meltdown, and we could spend the next four years forcing the left to put lipstick on a pig!

The Fascist Dems
Well, the Dems and Nan and Harry are in it up to their oil wells. If the Stupid Party can make ads on this Nan attempt to stop an up and down vote on energy, they should run it nationally in all the Congressional districts. Indies and conservative Dems already are wondering how the faux Messiah will ruin the nation and Nancy plays right into this concern. Do it Pubs. Run ads that slam these fascist socialist pacifists. They are the heritage of too many Nanny State Dems over the last 60 years and captured by the Greenies-Pacifist-Socialists, would make this nation look like the Chad.

Hey Michele
Where did you stay when you were up in Alaska? Uncle Teddys' hide away. It looks like a well remodeled little shack. Did you get to visit the BRIDGE TO NOWHERE? Now that's a pretty imressive piece of Republican pork payed for by the taxpayers of this great country of ours. You sound pretty hypocritical bashing the Democratic party when it was your party that put this country in the shape it is in today. Good luck in your nrxt election because you are sure going to need it.

This is a real howler

Michele Bachmann complaining about Democrats adjourning? It was Michele Bachmann whom voted to adjourn before the House voted on money for the collapsed 35W bridge.

http://www.minnesotamonitor.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=2174

It was Michele Bachmann who started whining as soon as she got to Washington about how that big mean Nancy Pelosi San Francisco Librul was making Congress work FIVE days a week instead of three like under the Republicans.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0207/2652.html

It was Michele Bachmann who walked out of Congress rather than vote on a contempt of Congress against Josh Bolton and Harriet Miersw:

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/02/14/republican-walkout/

And it was Michele Bachmann who was famous in the Minnesota State Senate for showing up for rollc all at committee meetings and then leaving to do her personal business.

Michele Bachmann complaining about Congress not working hard enough? That's rich. That's real rich.

Chicken Obama
It has a lemon sauce, nice and yellow.

Obama is afraid of McCain, hence the reason he will not debate him in a townhall (even though Obama said anyplace, any time, he would take on McCain).

As poster "David" so elequently stated here previously:

Brave Obama ran away.
Bravely ran away, away!
When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Obama turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Obama!

Too Bad
To bad it took you Repubs so long to grow some balls.

To bad you do not know how to be the party in charge.

To bad you had 8 years of control and did nothing on energy.

To bad you lost your conservative base.

To bad you spent money while in power like drunken sailors (no offense to drunken sailors).

You ALL deserve to be thrown out!!!

We got a Ronald, because we had a Jimmy.

To hell with all of you self centered elitist cowards.

Pelosi's at it again and again and again
This woman is beyond comprehension. One cannot debate with "indifferent ignorance". And that is most Liberal Democrats (Socialists), in office or voters. Note her vocal display, and lack of basic economic knowledge, yesterday AM on ABC.

It's time for her District to vote this incompetent out of office!

For All You Lefties . . .
That would be Unsig, Kimb, Wretch etc . . . just because the Dems now running Congress rule it like a dictatorship, doesn't mean that the Repubs did when they ran it. In fact, they didn't. There were debates and votes. That isn't the case with the Dems. In a true democracy, you win some, and you lose some. Nowadays, it seems like when the Dems are fixin to lose, they make sure there are no votes ( or even debate ).

Complain about Bush all you want, but at least he doesn't try to win elections by selling out his country.

How can we show our support?
I have been reading about the Representatives in the House who are holding meetings each day to demand that Congress reconvene and vote on the American Energy Act. What can we do to support them? How can we help them draw attention to their cause? We have all criticized our reps for years for not standing up for us. Now that they are, we need to stand up for them too. Do you know of any concrete efforts to show them we stand behind them?

I second what Brianbnc says
Wasn't the revolutionary war about getting rid of those who took our money but wouldn't represent us.

Am I overstating this? Or is that exactly what they're doing?

IT'S THE USUAL
Democrats, during my lifetime (42 yrs) have had a difficult time with economic strength. Sure the Clinton White House enjoyed the Reagan policy economic success, but since then, we have experienced the SHIFT TO THE LEFT by practically all of congress. The further left the GOP moves to compromise, the further left the dems go. The GOP should realize the only return to true, long lasting success, is to return to conservative mindsets. Otherwise, you should just go away. The only reason repubs are trying anything is because their continued "careers" are now in jeopardy.

Thanks for standing up for America. I am concerned about the price of oil and gasoline and its effect on Americans and the U.S. economy, and I am very very concerned that this is a threat to our NATIONAL SECURITY!.....Glen
