"The Obama administration will be hard-pressed
to avoid raising taxes on the middle class..."

That's is what non-partisan economists are independently saying and what The Hill newspaper is reporting when crunching the budget numbers in the FY 2010 budget put forth by the White House and Democrat Congressional leaders.

Here are some more of the money quotes from the story:

“You just simply can’t tax the rich enough to make this all up,” said Martin A. Sullivan, a former economic aide in the Reagan administration who said he backed Obama last fall.

“Especially just for getting the budget to a sustainable level, there needs to be a broad-based tax increase,” said Sullivan, now a contributing editor at Tax Analysts publications. “If you want to do healthcare on top of that, almost certainly, it just makes [a middle-class tax increase] all the more certain.”

“There’s no way we’re going to be able to pay for government 10, 20 years from now without coming up with a new revenue source,” said Leonard Burman, director of the Tax Policy Center, during a forum on Obama’s tax proposals earlier this month.

If these assessments prove true, middle class tax hikes are on the way. So much for campaign promises.

Any Reasonable Person
Knows that this massive spending will have to lead to higher taxes on everyone. I am sure that the taxes on things like telephone, Cable, gasoline, etc. will be the first taxes they raise. They believe that the American people won't notice. Many people fail to realize that as we use less and less gas less revenue in taxes will be collected by the states and federal government. That extra money will have to come from somewhere. We are being set up for massive taw increases and I am affraid that even if these clowns are voted out in 2010 the damage will have been done and we will pay for many years to come.

Project Top Tax Rates
Political Calculations did an analysis that took historic data for the national debt, GDP and population for the U.S. and mapped out a relationship between these factors and the top income tax rate for each year since the income tax was first introduced in 1913:

http://tinyurl.com/cgd237

It's very likely that income tax rates will be going up across the board for middle-class and upper income earners. Just based on the amount by which the national debt had increased through 7 April 2009, we would anticipate top income tax rates to rise to at least 62%, and by the time this year's spending is complete, we would anticipate that the top income tax rate will need to double from current levels. And that's just based on how politicians have historically done things in the U.S.

Of course, it's not just the rate for the highest income earners that will change. Every tax rate from the 25% bracket on up will increase as well.

The problem with that strategy is that regardless of how high income tax rates are raised, the federal government will not sustainably collect any more than roughly 8% (plus or minus 0.8%) of GDP through personal income taxes.

what happened to the 10 bucks a week ?

GEESH what happened to Obamas revolutionary tax break of 10 bucks a week for 7 months for 95% of which 50% do not even pay taxes !

Obama is gloating over sticking it to us with his $3,000 per year tax and Utility fee increases to support his global warming hoax and his "GREEN" hoax

50% of your phone bill is already taxes, access fees, user fees etc.

NOW THAT is a huge tax reduction for the middle class, HIKING fees (taxes) on everything you need for daily living:

how about some real facts
not one person in the united states has had their federal taxes raised since obama took office.

but 95% of americans have had a tax cut.

those are facts.

here are some more facts

the gallup polls was one of two polls that predicted the presidential race exactly has it ended. so don't tell me it is not accurate.

Over two-thirds of Americans -- 71% -- have a great deal or a fair amount of confidence in President Obama to do or recommend the right thing for the economy,

http://www.gallup.com/poll/117415/Americans-Confident-Obama -Economy.aspx

President Barack Obama's overall job approval rating has been highly stable since mid-February, averaging 62% since Feb. 16, as well as in the most recent week, from March 30 through April 5.

Please explain how "95% of americans have had a tax cut" when 40% of Americans AREN'T even paying income taxes? Getting money back that you didn't earn and don't deserve is not a tax cut, it's a hand out.

And his approval rating? His first 100 days are near an end and what have we got? He'll go into the toilet along with his rubber stamp congress.

maybe,

but as a small business owner i am seeing the economy turning around.

i have more business than i can handle (i run a construction related business) where six months ago i was barely surviving.

housing prices have gone up in my county by $5000 dollars in the last month.

don't you think it is ironic that conservatives have to hope the economy doesn't turn around.

last thing.

by accounts on fox news about 100000 people showed yesterday.

obama got 100000 in st. louis in october for one speech.

kind of puts it in perspective.

Everyone knows that the economy runs in cycles. My husband has been in the construction industry for 40 years and we have watched these cycles. What you fail to realize is that the bills will come due for all of this spending. Where will the money come from. 5% of the people cannot be taxed enough to cover them. You are about to see taxes raised on energy, telephone, cable, etc. Peoples disposable income will be less and less. As this happens business will be stiffled again. Remember it is not all about just what you pay when you file taxes it is all of the taxes that you pay. When you see debt that is rising by not billions but trillions you have a real problem. The eeconomy always turns around. It did even after the 22% interest rates during the Carter years. Problem is this time I doubt it will turn around for long with this debt hanging over our heads.
J. Ewing writes: Thursday, April, 16, 2009 12:00 PM
Not possible
If you add up all the debt and outstanding obligations of the federal government RIGHT NOW, without Obama's massive budget spendathon, you come up with a figure that amounts to about $300,000 for every man, woman and child in the country. There is NO WAY to pay this off! Any "new revenue source" has to come from somebody, and has to come out of the economy somewhere, and you simply cannot raise taxes that high.

No, wait. THIS Congress says "yes, we can" and they are right. If you simply set the income tax rate to 100%, for everybody, for the next 7 or 8 years, and you will pretty well cover it. Anybody so selfish as to want to put food on the table for their family would be jailed. No problem, right?

christianlib: It's interesting that....
...everything is turning around for you so nicely BEFORE the so-called tax cuts, before the tax hikes, before the stimulus has had a chance to stimulate much of anything.

So, what are you saying? Things are working out w/o Obomamnomics? All that govt taking from Peter to give to Paul isn't necessary?

So, let's just cancel the "budget" with its massive spending and debt, keep the Bush tax "cuts" (which were a very effective repeal of Clinton's hikes).

Don't know where you live. Here in CA our 35 year old business has all but dried up. But then CA has all but dried up. If you want to see the net effect of mindless, ideological (and illogical) spending, open borders, growing an already bloated government, health care for everyone, strong public employees' unions extorting unsustainable benefits bankrupting cities and counties, confiscatory regulations (cap 'n trade, anyone?), unscientific, ideologically-based environmentalism and throwing money at hopelessly ineffective schools come to the once Golden State (when run by real conservatives), now turned by a pack lame-brain libs into a pile of caca.

The US under BO can expect the same. Duh!

I fought BO because I knew his promised tax hikes on estates, income over $250,000 (a pittance to run a business)and cap gains were going to be the death of us--not to mention the country.

Well, not to worry. There is no estate, there is no $250,000 (or any profits) or cap gains under BO. I guess I got my tax cuts afterall.

But then it's YOU that's going to be paying for my "free" health care (and our 50 employees' families), out Section 8 housing and our food stamps. Thanks, bud.

You have stated the facts very well. First of all the reason that Christianlib is probably picking up some business is due to the fact that so many businesses have gone under. We are far from turning the corner on this recession and I am affraid that even if we do for a short time it will not last. No economy can sustain this kind of debt. The people of California and New York can probably best describe how liberal spending can ruin an economy. Both states are paying for lots of illegals, both are very liberal and both are broke.

So Bachmann's "proof" is the statement of some economists. And then the deranged sheeple here cackle as if a statement by some economists is reality.

But gee, why does TH hate the troops so much? I mean, who is paying the TRILIONS for these wars you started? WHO?

And if you expect soldiers to sacrifice their limb and life, you sit and whine about taxes that will pay these under-funded warriors?

What a sad sickening lot. No wonder the GOP has 22 percent approval. Well, no wonder at all...

You show what an idiot you are each time you post. The massive debt that is being run up by these politicians makes Bush look like a miser. Billions that you libs complain about has now turned into trillions. 5% of the tax payers can not pay for this folly. We all are willing to pay our fair share and I for one am more tha happy to pay for the military. What I am not happy to pay for is wasteless pork. I am not willing to pay for 13 million illegals to have healthcare, welfare and food stamps. I am not willing to pay for more people to stay home and become dependent on the government. Bush spent much too much and you libs keep complaining about the 440 billion in debt that he left but now you see no problem with the trillions that your group is spending. Do you realize how stupid you sound.

"Bush spent much too much and you libs keep complaining about the 440 billion in debt that he left but now you see no problem with the trillions that your group is spending. Do you realize how stupid you sound."

The fact that conservatives held the GOP responsible for being irresponsible, and that conservatives have to remind statists over and over and over and over again about this fact is proof that statists, like Christian, don't care how stupid they sound.

You have ruined it B2slim
Now they are going to know Obama's secret! It's not taxes, it's fee, dues, levies, costs with stipulations on all the above that they will be raised at the whim of the great and powerful OZ. No you have come along and played the role of the child who asked, "Why has the Emperor no Clothes?" No everyone 'cept these acorns will know he is an empty suit only without the suit. Kinda like a 200 pound bag of manure without the bag. Then when their little "tax cut" expires in a year, all that will be left is "change".
