Prior to the vote last week on the House Democrats’ 800-billion-dollar-plus spending package, I joined several of my House Republican colleagues in sending a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi about the ludicrous amounts spent on programs that have no impact on the immediate recovery of our economy.  For instance, the bill includes $15 billion for existing housing programs, the majority of which already have large unspent balances sitting in their accounts.

Specifically, we expressed our concern that this bill opens the door for groups like ACORN to have access to billions more in taxpayer dollars. Between 1994 and 2008, ACORN has received at least $53 million in direct federal funding.  And, it receives millions more in federal funds indirectly through states and cities.

Last year, Congress included in the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 provisions that barred ACORN from receiving federal financial assistance under the Neighborhood Stabilization Program.  The provision barred funding for groups indicted for federal election fraud or hiring individuals indicted for such.

Yet, under this new so-called “stimulus” bill, it is unclear whether the same restrictions apply. This is a serious omission that needs to be addressed.

As flawed as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is in making reforms that will benefit our economy, these egregious omissions and gestures to political friends and allies is simply irresponsible and wrong.

To read the letter, check out the "Letters" section on my website under Financial Services.

Does she ever acknowledge these letters?
Continuing your stellar work Rep. Bachmann.
I'm begining to see view you as Representative of your District and Minister without Portfolio for the rest of us. You're welcome to swim in my pool anytime you vist Southern California.

It isn't "simply irresponsible and wrong" to permit ACORN to qualify for 'stimulus' money. It's outright graft conceled under guise of the public good.

We need in the final mark up, an outright prohibition of any funds going to ACORN or any public advocacy group. It needs to be spelled out.

This is the most important thing I've read today.

Thank you.

ACORN and PUBLIC ALLIES
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama created a boot camp for radicals who hate the military and stick American taxpayers with the bill. A favorite subject is heterosexism described as a negative byproduct of capitalism and white male supremacy and privilege. If you think the stinking stimulus scam is just the beginning of your buyer's remorse, you will give some very serious thought of changing your political persuasion.

Images of the Hitler Youth Corps during his rise to power spring into my mind with the President's Public Allies. Thomas Brewton says, "Public Allies aims to stamp out the remaining vestiges of Judeo-Christian morality and convert America’s young people to the collectivistic, secular, atheistic religion of socialism. Be afraid Be very afraid!

Obama will expand Public Allies (Brown Shirts version) it into a national program that will cost over $500 billion during the first year. Obama said, “We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded as the military.”

President Obama said, “Pennsylvanians were bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." http://michellemalkin.com/2008/10/24/boot-murtha-the-chang e-america-deserves/

Who are the Dem Leaders Serving
These Dem Leaders are immoral, disgraceful.

I swear these people have evil intent and do not care about this country. Anyone who cared about this country would not have crafted this bill in teh Ivory Tower, they would not have excluded the GOP they would not be devoted to protecting the pork.

They are using so-called Emergency to advance political nonsense.

I am so fed up.

Too bad
The GOP should have shut down ACORN eight years ago.

"Domestic Enemy"

Yeah. How about that? And the oath to defend the Constitution?

If I do something, I'm a domestic terrorist. If I have friends help, we're domestic terrorists. I think that only from those in government can such needed action have legitimacy.

I'll back them if I believe them, with my life if necessary. But I sure as hell ain't pullin' the first trigger.

So, Dr. Jon, a group of right thinking Americans applauding Conresswoman Bachmann's work constitutes censorship?
No negative comments?
I disagree - yours was posted.

ACORN
Good job Rep. Bachmann. I'm pleased that you're at the helm of the ACORN debacal. This org. needs a complete makeover. Aren't these the people who were partially instrumental in bringing down the housing industry by their excessive intimiding tactics, forcing banks to grant loans to individuals who could not afford to pay for them?

And what about statewide fraudulent voter applications in this past election. A law needs to be implimented so every individual has a photo ID, name and address, required to be shown before they can vote. This is required in Florida and I don't understand why the same doesn't apply in all other states. We have 4 years to make the election process tamper free.

Keep up the good work, Rep. Michele Bachmann

Simple answer
Why can't we enact legislation preventing any organization that receives direct government money from submitting voter registration forms?

Surely there is a huge conflict of interest involved. If ACORN want to solicit money from the general public that's fine. They can do whatever they want with it.

Still Bogus Blogging
Say what you will about Dems. The GOP is no better. We, as a country would be better off with no political parties at all. All there is is trash talk on both sides. But to all you blind Bachmann followers; it's obvious none of you are gay, have gay friends, or talk to your gay family members. Otherwise you would not be so passionate in your defense of a biggot who not only would concentrate all those gay people, but might just try to valid public lynchings of said persons. I wonder... just what does your disowned son or daughter think of you now?
