It seems that Democrats have come to their senses, at least for now anyway. Appropriations Chairman David Obey (D-WI) has reportedly said that the funding resolution for Fiscal Year 2009 will NOT extend the moratorium that currently prevents exploration in the Outer Continental Shelf and for Oil Shale. That moratorium is currently set to expire on October 1.
Republicans and all Americans can claim victory knowing that our tireless dedication, most notably during the August recess when the Democrats were on vacation and Republicans continued to press for opening up our energy resources, has forced the Democrats' hand. But this is by no means the end of the story.
The Democrats will wait out the election and if they take the White House, you can bet that the executive branch moratorium on offshore drilling lifted by President Bush will once again be put in place. Not to mention that there's still a chance that the Democrats' "no energy" energy bill that they forced through the House last week could find its way through the Senate and onto the President's desk.
Furthermore, simply because this moratorium will expire on October 1 does not mean that energy production will start on October 2. What it does mean is that we can now begin setting plans that will allow for American energy production and eventual energy independence. My legislation to cut the red tape on energy production can certainly fast track things, but the Democrat leadership is sitting on it. In fact, they’re sitting on most any real energy legislation.
We won a battle, but the fight for American energy independence wages on.
How rich! Dems caved-in to the fantasies of the oil party -- it won't be years before drilling has any economic effect, but don't let that get in the way of your dumb band-aids.
McCain/Palin are toast. |

Protein Wisdom reports:
As I noted in an update last evening would almost certainly be the case, the media today is pushing the story that the firm owned by McCain’s campaign manager, Rick Davis, lobbied for Freddie and Fannie Mac — all while continuing to ignore exploring, at any length, Sen Barack Obama’s actual ties to those closely related to the current economic meltdown. Not only that, but the Davis-as-tied-to-crisis story is disputed by the McCain campaign — which alleges that the NYT has reported in bad faith, and that public records back up the campaign’s claims that Mr Davis cut ties to his firm in 2006, and that he never lobbied Freddie or Fannie Mac (and in fact, hasn’t been a registered lobbyist since 2005).
All of which, I suppose, is not surprising; after all, the media seems to think that the Sen from Illinois is running against everyone but Senator McCain, from the Gov. of Alaska to a campaign manager, and so their function has been to try to dirty them and hope that as the stories accrue, the public is left with a certain impression crafted by their reporting, while the facts that undercut this impression will ultimately only be “corrected” in the back pages of the paper, if at all.

King Liberal, angel66, and ronnie.
If you think that the average voter doesn't realize what the liberal left has done to wreck our country economically, brace yourselves for a rude awakening.
The crushing defeat for the liberal dems in November is going to be so devastating that even the NYT (thanks to Joe) sees the handwriting on the wall and has removed all pretext of partiality in their reporting.
You all might want to update your resumes before the DNC goes belly up.
Only 40 days to go. I can't wait!

You liberal idiots just hear what you want and say what you need to, and forget every time you open your mouth you merely expose what you truely are, when gas prices were running amok it was bushes pals staling from america, but when they fell you were silent, when we talk about energy you say will ruin the planet and that ONLY you can save it but never how, just that the repubs are wrong, when the EVIL wallstreet firms colapse you want us to PAY, but only if you get control of all the companies, and your simple one tract mind being only able to follow one bull crap theme at a time let the idiotic ban elapse and they say repubs are fools that cant win without your HELP,you people are IDIOTS and this country is getting wise ,and I hope your days as a political party are truely numbered. Most of this country wants FREE interprise and DRILLING and using our own resources but you left wing idiots dont listen and it will be your downfall, we are not idiots and have had enough. |

My ears, eyes and brain are all open and observing, digging and analyzing the economic and energy data. The root causes of our problems all point back to liberal dem policies coming home to roost.
You liberal agents have no intellectual honesty or integrity. I would respect you more if you acknowledged your past mistakes, take your lumps, and try to do better. Instead you freely distort and lie about the root causes and your responsibility for failed socialist programs.
You present no helpful solutions to our country's problems and are an enemy of personal freedom and free market capitalism.
The voters realize who you are and the socialism that your kind represent as you try and redistribute the wealth and cripple our economy in the process.
The average voter is plugging their ears to your rhetoric and the mass media that helps propagate the liberal left distortions.
Yeah, you'll get a few uninformed gullible voters to vote for your agenda, but the majority has awoken to the dangers of the liberal left.
You have been branded a deceiver, don't be surprised when people don't believe you. You're not smart enough to fool most of us anyhow.

but let's get down to brass tacks. Stop throwing your dirty laundry over the fence, and acknowledgge accountability. I thought you guys were the party of personal responsibility? |

Douglas? It's ironic that you refer to liberals as idiots a couple of times in a grade school rant that is nothing more than a run-on sentence. Dougie... calm down and cut some bigger eye holes in that sheet you've got over your head, maybe that's why your writing is so poor. Dougie... try to understand that when grown-ups write(or people that completed high school) , we like to use things like punctuation, capital letters and proper spelling (it's enterprise, not "interprise").
Oh and about the drilling... are you too young, too stupid or too blindly partisan to remember the Exxon Valdez? Is an ecological nightmare worth the risk for some oil that isn't going to do a thing for the price of gas?
Bottom line Doug, I don't expect you'll ever the education you've been cheated out of, but try to get the facts on the topics you talk about. Sorry, Fox News as your ONLY source of information doesn't count as valid research on many topics. |
