There will be no new "Stimulus"! The Gap in our GDP which is probably 2 trillion can't be closed with borrowed money. At the end of the day, production must be increased. Unemployment will start to decrease at the beginning of 2010. Any further actions taken to stimulate this economy, will be counter-productive and harmful. Spending more money that we do not have would be a disaster. No we cannot afford another stimulus. Stimulus number 1 should have been thought out better and perhaps it would have been more helpful. Also they have yet to spend the first and are already talking about a second. I believe this shows that they are well aware number 1 is a huge failure. If this government does not stop spending and start showing that they can be responsible we will see a double dip recession and the second will be much worse than the first. They cannot just tax and spend us out of this one. |

I don't agree that it is a good idea for government to be creating jobs. I think government should try to create opportunities for women to choose to remove themselves from the workplace and manage a home and raise a family, thereby freeing up jobs.

I'm with you, I chose to stay home and raise my six kids at a time when most women were out 'finding' themselves by working. It wasn't easy when the only voice you heard all day and many times later because Dad had two jobs, was a munchkin or in my case, a tribe of munchkins. But I wouldn't trade it for the world, we don't have a huge house, big cars or toys but we have some great kids and except for the youngest, all my daughters and dau.in laws are stay at home moms and except for one due to divorce...home schoolers. Having said that, if it weren't for so many buying the feminazi lies thirty plus years ago I don't think our Republic would be in
such a mess.
Now, young mothers are forced to work because of the TAX BURDEN these political parasites are du;mping on families not to mention the social problems the DemonRATS foisted on our culture with their Great Society and/or War on Poverty.

I tried to watch a portion of EVERY program on Fox News last night from 5 pm until 10 pm because I wanted to see how they would handle the comments of the White House.
They were simply besides themselves with joy! They even pulled Brit Humes out of mothballs to comment on the situation.
Look for their ratings to go even higher because folks never before gave thought to watching Fox News will go to that channel to see WTH are they doing right to acquire the ire of the White House.
Also, I suspect cable and satellite subscriptions will pick up too 'cause lots of folks are still on rabbit ears and don't get Fox News.
Oh, last I checked, DISH didn't carry Fox News as part of the basic package. I run into several folks in WVA last summer who had gotten rid of DISH in favor of DIRECTV because DISH was a POS. I, myself, spent over four hours at a aged neighbor woman's house trying to get her Digital TV system working 'cause DISH didn't carry local channels. I got it going, but told her she'd be better off with DIRECTV. |

Stimulus 2 should be renamed PORK 2.
It just seems to me that when you take money away from the people (companies) that should be creating the new jobs they won't have enough left to hire new people. Reducing taxes puts more people to work and thus brings in more tax money. Remember back when JFK had problems with the economy his reaction was to reduce taxes. What happened? Tax revenue went up because people went back to work. No government that tried to be everything to everybody has ever succeeded. |

Two things will clean up big government: Term limits on Senators & Representatives and No special deals for congress; They go on social security like everyone else, they go on medicare/medicade like everyone else, they draw no retirement until they reach the appropriate age. Where is this money coming from? We don't have any money to lend out as far as I know. I am so sick of hearing about all of the disparities about government money when "The highest paid city official in California was earning more than $500,000 as a city administrator when he was arrested. He was charged with embezzlement of city funds. Still, he continued earning a $500,000/year pension, even as he waited for his trial."

OK, but do you get it as part of the basic (cheapest) package?
I called them a year or so ago when DISH looked cheaper than DIRECTV. I specifically asked about Fox News and certain Spanish channels I like to watch at times. I was told that Fox and the SP channels would be extra unless I upgraded to a better (more expensive0 package.
Several of my neighbors in West Virginia originally had DISH because they thought it was cheaper. They found that DIRECTV had channels in their basic package that DISH did not.
I've never had DISH, but helped a neighbor. The system is terribly slow at acquiring a satellite compared to DIRECTV.
My neighbor wasn't happy with the technical service either. She is a very old woman -- 88 or 89, and said she had the tech to her house twice before with no results. It took me over four hours to get her entire entertainment package working as it should -- and I'm not any sorta expert on entertainment electronics.

Do you really believe that "tax burden" is the main reason women work outside the home? Look at inflation. Back in the heyday of the stay-at-home mom, our first home (1960) cost $18,000 and the monthly mortgage payment was $97. Our first new car (same year) cost $2000. Our pediatrician made house-calls for $7. Beef chuck cost 3 lb x $1 on sale, most cereal cost 29 cents a box, and a gallon of milk cost 69 cents. I still have a notebook detailing our expenses for a 1967 camping trip to California; we filled up with gas for around $3.50 and a full day at Disneyland for four people, including admissions and meals, came to $31---parking was free.
Compare all of this with what young families have to spend now---$2000 a month for housing is not unusual---one income can't cover it, even allowing for incomes being much higher now. Add to this the monthly cost of contraception (do some googling), the cost of children's clothing and shoes, the cost of Dad's commuting, and other necessary expenses for young families.
In addition, many women choose not to waste their education; it's hardly surprising that a nurse, doctor, lawyer, teacher, CPA, etc who spent years in school preparing to work might actually want to stay professionally active and keep her hands in even in a part-time capacity. Later, when the family needs more income to cover kids' college tuition, or when Dad dies and Mom MUST go to work, she will be in a better position to command a decent salary.

Do you believe a CEO who received $10s of million at AIG, ENRON, EXXON, etc has worked any harder than a construction worker building and repairing highways...
Do you believe the those hedge fund investors who made billions in income using other peoples' money deserve to have a 15% tax rate on that income; while we have a lower tax rate...

When Reagan cut taxes the amount of income to the government doubled. What happened was that Congress couldn't stop spending then and they can't stop spending now.
And while all are asked to cut back, when does congress do the same. And if waste and fraud can be halted to pay for a new program, let's get the waste and fraud stopped first and then have the funds in hand.
As to income distribution, Ask Marilyn, in Parade magazine cited that if we redistribute all the wealth to the world, everyone would get $9000. Personally I like capitalism better.
And if Bush was so bad, and spent so much, then Bush's critics have to be consistent and complain that Obama is spending more, and the debt is increasing at a rate unsurpassed in history.

They guy who opened up Soc Security to be spent was Lyndon Baines Johnson, not Ronald Reagan. What Reagan actually did is put the trust fund back in place for Social Security. It was the Democrats who ran Congress that decided they could borrow against those and put those regulations in place at the same time that Social Security was put back into a trust fund. |

Since the war on poverty in the 60's, we have the same number of poor.
Yet, the poor have more and want more.
Every person I have met that believes the government must provide the poor, either does not want to work or they believe that the poor are unable to work.
If we keep spending, then the capital to build and invest to make jobs or to innovate for new or less expensive products will disappear.
Stimulus II could wipe out that capital.
I know people who actually believe the evil people are the rich and the insurance companies.
I worked for an insurance company. They have a small margin of percent profit, which makes them set stringent rules for reimbursements.
And all, except government work and unions, have worked for rich people. Where does the government and unions think they are going to get fees and taxes from once the people have no rich people to work for. |

yes we need to cut taxes but thats only half of it .you must reduce the size and scope of goverment . tax cuts alone can not generate enough of an increase in revenues to offset the steadily increasing size of goverment . why not cut taxes and instead of a built in increase in the size of goverment freeze all goverment programs and staff at their current levels . they can replace retirees but they can not increase the size or scope of their departments in addition to this we can downsize through attrition all programs that duplicate or overlap each other we can go back to the basics for 10 15 years and most of this current mess will be gone |
